About the Course
This course cover three main topic areas:
1. Academic Policy
2. Personal Reflection and Career Exploration
3. Financial Planning
Academic Policy sessions deliver information about UCF and CBA policies and practices required to make informed academic decisions and avoid program completion delays. Major areas of concentration include admission to college and major, graduation requirements, intent to graduate, academic resources and teaching technology.
Personal Reflection and Career Exploration sessions prepare students to assess and develop career options along with decision making and communication skills to assist themselves and others in career planning. Major areas of concentration include academic preparation, alternative job and career options and learning from failure.
Financial Planning sessions develop financial literacy skills on college financing and career planning. Major areas of concentration include consumer purchasing decisions, financial services, ROI of college degrees and opportunity costs. The Central Florida economy and labor market session focuses on how CBA majors relate to various career options and opportunities. Topics include major industries, labor market characteristics, scope of business entities, and forms of ownership.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Students will participate in experiential exercises that will familiarize them with career development theories and assess their personality preferences, interests, values, strengths and weaknesses and relate them to career and educational planning.
• Students will develop steps to achieve list of career goals.
• Students will be develop verbal communication skills by participating in experiential exercises that will familiarize them with networking and elevator pitch.
• Students will demonstrate knowledge of the job search readiness process.
• Students will understand the process of networking, build contacts, and enhance your overall professional development.
• Students will learn the importance of gaining experience and placing it on their resume.
• Students will learn to communicate their experiences effectively through an interview.
