About the Course
The goals of Communication Skills Level 10 are for students to continue strengthening their listening comprehension, speaking, and note-taking skills for both academic and casual conversation, use English to discuss current events at a more advanced academic level, and successfully execute professional presentations. Students learn how to engage their thoughts with TED Talks and come up with presentation that connect them with their audience by developing their presentations’ skills and personality effectiveness.
Learning Objectives
--Deliver effective academic presentations in their field of study.
1. Improve comprehension and note-taking skills regarding academic lectures and discussions:
1.1. Recognize repetition
1.2. Formulate questions on what is being heard
1.3. Identify the speaker’s purpose
1.4. Recognize a speaker’s attitude
1.5. Use abbreviations for numerical details
1.6. Note who says what while listening and taking notes
1.7. Note numbers and their relevance
1.8. Note key information on slides
2. Develop students’ abilities in oral communication skills:
2.1. Ask questions
2.2. State your position
2.3. Help listeners follow your ideas
2.4. express your views strongly
3. Develop student proficiency in giving academic presentations at the college level:
3.1. Support your message with a story
3.2. Connect with your audience
3.3. Include effective supporting details
3.4. Rehearse your talk
